Vertigo to get less ugly?

January 16th, 2007 · 8 Comments

One of the most popular articles on Urbnlivn has been, Ugliest condo building in Seattle? Today I was walking by Vertigo and noticed some test patches on the walls:

Vertigo Getting Painted?Vertigo Getting Painted? Hosted on Zooomr

I asked one of the workers standing around which colors they were going with and he said he didn’t know since ‘there are too many people making decisions, it always changes.’

For the good of the neighborhood I hope they decide to paint the building one solid color and stick to an accent color only for trim.

I walked by there over a month ago and they had the test patches then too. How long does it take to pick a color?

let’s hope they’re not picking it themselves! i hope they consult a professional…

I went by there a couple of days ago and it looks like they’ve finally decided on a color scheme. They were taping things off and getting ready to start painting.

I was told that the repainting is due to a petition that was signed by hundreds of neighborhood residents. I have also noticed that after several months on the market the building remains empty.

I am more likely to believe that the repaint is an attempt to attract residents than to appease the neighbors.

Now it’s two colors of baby poop brown– even uglier than before.

There are four colors total it appears. Dark green, dark red, and as Brad said, two colors of baby poop brown.

Overall, the building isn’t so hideous anymore. However, the quality of the paint job is horrible. They didn’t put enough coats on to cover up the previous obnoxious colors. There are several spots that they missed entirely. Also, there is overspray in several spots.

And the building does look completely vacant. At night time the other night, there wasn’t a single light on in the building.

I feel like this is someone’s tax write-off. The mismanagement of this conversion is preposterous. The owner’s must just be waiting around to sell the building to a group that will just tear it down.
