Thanks to Carl we have a date and location for our next meetup. Please consider attending whether you’re a consumer in the market or an industry insider. With close to a thousand visitors a day I know there are a lot of us out there.
You’re Invited: Urbnlivn Meetup & Anniversary Celebration — Wednesday, 27-Jun-2007
by guest contributor Carl Goodman
Join us for our third in an occasional series of Urbnlivn Meetups, where you can share your passion for Urbnlivn.com, downtown Seattle and all things condo. Plus, we’ll be celebrating Matt’s one-year anniversary at the helm of his brainstorm, Urbnlivn.com, an absolutely unique blog equal parts consumer-empowerment tool, architectural critique, conflict-of-interest exposé, and personal chronicle of his craving for home ownership. (Not to mention an occasional source of juicy gossip.):
When:
Wednesday, 27-Jun-2007
6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Where:
Paddy Coynes Irish Pub
1190 Thomas St., South Lake Union
(two blocks north of Denny Way, between Fairview Ave N and Minor Ave N)
No-host soda, full bar, appetizers and full menu will be available.
Let’s reinforce our online dialogues by getting to know each other offline. Whether you’re an active commentator on Urbnlivn.com or quietly observe the postings of others, here’s your opportunity to meet kindred souls passionate about uncovering some of the mysteries and exposing some of the rackets involved in marketing downtown residential real estate developments – and getting the mortgages needed to live in them.
But we’re not just skeptics. We celebrate our role in Seattle’s transformation into a denser, more vibrant, but still wild, metropolis. Our Meetups offer informal ways for each of us to impart tips and perspectives and help build a true sense of community.
Also, prolific bloggers, such as EconE, Seattle67, jo, Matthew, mhays, Dan C, you may be surprised at the buzz that your comments generate, so definitely try to attend to meet your fans (you won’t even need to own up to your respective nom de plumes). Unlike the ease of posting a flaming comment online, our Meetups are quite mellow, so no fisticuffs anticipated.
Hope you’ll celebrate with us on the 27th!

I would definitely like to attend one of these meet-ups, but unfortunately I will be out of the country at the end of the month. Hopefully next time.

Sent you an email Matt. Can’t make this one but I’d love to meet everybody, and hold no grudges against anybody. I’ll even buy a few rounds for the top commentators.

Are you kidding? What is wild about Seattle, WA?

ChristianGustafson!
WOW. I never thought I’d see another HPer on urbnlivn.
Matt…haven’t heard back from you. Are you sure that these “fans” you allude to aren’t haterz? Do I need to hire bodyguards and wear a flack jacket?

Bummer you all can’t make it. Foster is out of town too. Next time! I’m still hoping we can lure some of the lurkers out. I know who you are :).

I check in on urbnlivn from time to time. I actually like the optimistic mood here, but appreciate that you are able to call a dog — eg. Trio — a dog.
I agree with you that people should live in cities, I can’t stand suburban sprawl. I also lived in one of the pioneering efforts in integrated urban living, Marina City, Chicago, for seven years. In Chicago, buildings are made of brick or concrete, not the 2×4 Tyvek and sawdust mess that is in vogue in Seattle.
Of course, my current outlook on RE is not pessimistic, it’s downright apocalyptic. I can’t imagine what it will be like holding a national election next year when things really get grim.
My office overlooks the Olive8 work site. I’ll keep an eye on the construction and let you know if they abandon it or if the crews stage any sort of mutiny action.

Didn’t know I was so prolific :) That is quite an compliment.
Christian, I agree with you that things will get downright nasty in the next year. I wouldn’t go as far as to say apocalyptic, but we will definately see some major change. I think there are things that we as citizens can do to help control the upgrowth and sprawl occurring here and in other major cities.
I am sure most of you know, but there are seats available on all land use review committees in your respective neighborhoods. Also, when you see the ever present “Notice of Land Use Action” yellow signs on your street, take a minute to stop and read them. If you don’t like what is planned, call the city number and lodge a complaint against the builder.
Matt, I will try and make the bar party. Sounds like a good time. I hope you are bringing a soapbox for a few people to stand on.

Wow, thanks for the call out! I haven’t commented as much as EconE, but have been following urbnlivn for the past few months. The 27th sounds good, and I should be able to make it.

I’m 29, been a part of forums on the web for years now. Still can’t get myself to attend a meet up - just too odd. Ain’t going to change now. :) Appreciate the invite however.

I suppose I classify as a “lurker.” Perhaps I’ll be redeemed if I attend the meet up, so count me in.

Matt…still haven’t heard back from you…so I’ll guess I’ll just say that I don’t feel safe showing up. Although it would be great to talk about all the corners that the builders cut (from my own personal inspection)…yup…I have one hell of a critical eye for detail. And I want you guys to demand nothing less than perfection from the builders that profit immensely from the consumers on this site. Well…maybe not perfection…but I gotta say…I could go on forever about the job Vulcan did on my bitter rental. LOL

Thanks for the personalized invitation! I didn’t know I was so prolific either. I can’t make it — someone bought a table at Teatro Zinzanni that night so that’s where I’ll be (quitely repeating “don’t pick me, don’t pick me, don’t pick me”).
