Microsoft coming to SLU?

September 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment

It’s funny, I got an email from a Microsoft recruiter today looking for product managers and I replied that I was happy at my downtown Seattle job and didn’t want to work on the Eastside. I guess I can’t use that as an excuse any more; Seattle PI Blog, Microsoft moving into Paul Allen project in Seattle:

Microsoft put out a message this morning alerting the media to a Thursday news conference where it will “unveil future plans for Microsoft Corp.’s Seattle expansion.” Spokesman Lou Gellos said the company would have no comment until the official announcement, but I spoke this morning with multiple people with knowledge of the situation who said Microsoft is going into Westlake/Terry, at 320 Westlake Ave. N.

Update from the Seattle Times: Microsoft setting up new office sites in Seattle:

The Redmond-based software giant confirmed this morning that it will lease about 126,000 square feet in the Westlake/Terry Building in the South Lake Union neighborhood.

About 400 Microsoft employees, including the company’s online services business, will move into the building in March 2008. It will also provide office space for up to 150 Microsoft employees who want to avoid rush-hour commutes to Redmond.

They’re also opening up two Pioneer Square locations. And actually our offices used to be just below Atlas who was an aQuantive unit that has since been acquired by Microsoft (we have since moved to 710 2nd.)

I heard that amazon’s plans are to relocate everyone from their Pacific Medical tower, Union Station 1 & 2 (by Qwest Field) and probably their space in the Columbia tower to new space in SLU as well.

Something like leasing 5 or more of the buildings coming up in the next couple of years. Seems like “downtown” is moving north.
