I should have read my Sunday New York Times before posting last night as there was an article in the business section about 1, Starwood’s Founder Makes a New Splash:

The first “1” hotel and condominium is scheduled to open in 2009 in downtown Seattle, a city that as of last year had 23 certified “green” buildings, the most of any American city, according to the Green Building Council, which issues the certifications known as Leadership in Energy and Environment Design, or LEED. The sales office opened this month.

In the comments of another post EconE points out how un-green Barry from Starwood is with his corporate jet.

Wendy also had a post about 1 recently.

That’s how ungreen he *was*…that article was from 2005. And c’mon…really now…what’s $971,000 in air travel expenses for 3 years? It’s really only about 480 first class round trip tickets between SEA & JFK!

For all we know he may have forgone the excessive (IMHO) consumption of fossil fuels altogether and now drives a Prius like all of the trendy Hollywood celebs. ;o)

He may drive a Prius, but I’ll bet he hasn’t given the private jet up. Flying commercial is for peasants.

    “Flying commercial is for peasants.”

Exactly. I was having beers with Don King’s private pilot a few days ago and learned that it costs $80K to have the plane for the weekend.
