Zia Shag Rug, Why Must You Be Back Ordered?

July 6th, 2008 · 12 Comments

I fell in love with a $7200 rug with half year shipping time from Kasala. I then shifted my attention to a $1600 one with only a quarter year shipping time, also from Kasala. Being an impatient person I then pursued cable rugs. I eyed the West Elm version until I found this Flickr photo:

We then went to Crate and Barrel where we spotted the Zia Shag Rug. However, the size I want, 8×10 is back ordered until August.

Argh!

The West Elm cable rug is great, but make sure you beat the snot out of it before laying it down. The furballs can make you go insane.

If you could go into more detail on how to beat the snot out of it to minimize shedding that would be appreciated :).

There’s not any way to prevent a wool rug from shedding, it’s just going to happen. Minimize the fuzz bunnies with regular vacuuming (2-3 times a week) for the first few months. Back ordered till August doesn’t sound that bad. I ordered a similar Danskina rug (InForm on Western) that took nearly 6 months, but it was worth the wait to get exactly what you want. Hold out for the Zia!

So can you actually vacuum these rugs without sucking it up into the vacuum?

I’ve always liked them, but have been worried about ruining one by accident…

rugs are art and hold their value.

make sure it was made from live wool.

if the salesman doesn’t know what that means…walk away.

I used a tennis racquet to beat it from behind. This wasn’t supposed to sound risque.

Hmmm… like the look of the West Elm cable option the best. But, if you’re liking Zia, I’m betting the Lounge Shag Rug (also in gray, natural & brown) from CB2 is related. It’s $200 less for the 8 x 10 version… and in stock.

i love shag rugs, but the OCD in me would NEVER allow me to have something that shags so much

I’ll have to call CB2 to see if they have samples…

I’ve been putting off my shag purchase until closer to the winter, as I’ve got concrete floors. Thanks for the heads up that I could have a 3-6 month wait ahead of me even in the summer!

I would highly recommend not getting a shag rug. I love the look of them and they are really comfy under your feet, but they all shed like crazy. I bought several different brands hoping to find one that didn’t shed, but they all do.

You’ll end up vacuuming several times a week unless you want six inch furballs rolling around your condo. And they aren’t even isolated to the rug area. You’ll get the furs on your socks and track them around to the rest of your place.

Check out this Pottery Barn rug:

I just bought it…and it is around $500 at the retail store (not sure why it is more online…or if it’s a slightly different version, but it looks the exact same).
