It’s grilling season and nothing is more frustrating than heading up to the roof top deck to discover that the grill that someone so kindly put up there is out of propane.
And so there’s nothing I’d like more than for the developer to include both a gas line to the roof and a nice grill. And if the units have balconies it’d be even better if all the units included gas lines (of course, in these days of value engineering, we can only dream.) Because nothing says the opposite of urban living than having to get in you car and drive to suburbia in order to get more propane.

what do folks think about grilling on decks? at my current rental unit nearly everyone grills, EVERY NIGHT…and opening your windows to let the fresh air in is pointless. it may have to do with the vertical stacking & proximity of the decks. i dont remember the last time i was able to enjoy a nice breeze while hanging out in the living room.

Now if only a 36″ Wolf range with grill option and hood was standard issue then people wouldn’t need grills… That’s what I really want.

i think trace north has piped gas to the roof, but there isn’t anything hooked up to it yet.

@ Matt. Totally agree. (Alas, our new place will have the Wolf 30″ no-grill option). But, here’s an alternative. We love our Breville… http://www.brevilleusa.com/products/bgr400xl/index.jsp?sku=bgr400xl&cID=233&pID=30&pvID=30

The lawless in belltown article is sadly true and not just for belltown. Just since 2005 things have really gone to hell in lower queen anne / belltown / downtown.
I bet if the city started recruiting the olympic sculpture park bike gestapo with the same $90k salaries they pay police there would be a noticeable improvement. Those guys are incredible. Of course that would also mean cameras. Actually, I’ve never seen less cameras and proximity security in any urban setting than in Seattle.

Getting to know your neighborhood drug dealers, panhandlers, and other street workers is just part of what “urban” living is about.
