Sneak Peak of Oddfellows Cafe + Bar

December 17th, 2008 · Comments · By Matt

Tonight I got a sneak peak of Linda Derschang (Linda’s, Smith, King’s) and Ericka Burke’s (Volunteer Park Cafe) Oddfellows Cafe + Bar at 10th and Pine. The interior is amazing; certainly nothing like Linda’s (there is no taxidermy.) Had I been thinking I would have brought my camera.

It’s set to open this Friday at 4 p.m. I’m looking forward to checking it out.

  • I went to oddfellows for brunch this morning. They're still getting used to things (and the breakfast food was awol due to the snow), but the food was excellent, and the place is gorgeous. We had a BLTa and the fig & ricotta brioche, but by far the best thing were the pb&j muffin/cupcake things at the front counter. Go get one now!

Before the deluge of comments about hipsters, negativity, etc, yawn. I do want to say that both these women are native sons, so to speak of Capitol Hill through various time periods. Doesn't make 'em saints, however I except to see props given to them and the developer(? don't remember who it is) in terms of working together on something truly local. And just 'cause they have other places doesn't mean they are made of money. New business is a risk for anybody (except maybe warren buffet?) Why do we end up with franchises so often in spaces (I'm looking a you subway, quiznos, ff) is because its fairly consistent on the money side and easy to deal with from a leasor's prospective. So, I am extremely happy that another mcdonald's, kfc, what have you is not going into the space. And hopefully, whoever owns the old kfc will take notice and work with locals who approach with ideas. tanks! for the update matt.
