A week ago Pizza Fusion, which only opened in November, in the Trace North retail space, closed its doors.
Pizza Fusion wasn’t perfect; the interiors and design, while well intentioned and “green”, it didn’t quite fit in with the Capitol Hill vibe. However, we did love its convenience and would often order take out. (Sadly, we have a bunch of unused gift certificates.) And they certainly did take a liking to Twitter of which I’m a fan.
Monday I had coffee with Ted, the developer, for Trace and he’s not surprisingly looking for someone to come in and take over, a basically brand new fully equipped, pizza restaurant. Pizza Fusion’s loss could be your gain! Just don’t make the mistake of buying 4 brand new delivery vehicles before you start deliveries.
But I think more than a pizza restaurant, what I’d really like is a deli and bakery. The Hill is sorely in need of both of those.
On the sales front – Trace North has sold 49 homes, has 6 pending, 3 in negotiation, and 42 on the market. Putting them at 50%. I also called Brix today who is reporting 69 of 141 sold.
On the other retail front – the bar opening in Trace Lofts has applied for their liquor license (thanks to a reader for the link). They should be opening in the June time frame.
Disclaimer: Trace North is a Urbnlivn sponsor and I live at Trace Lofts. This makes me really biased. If you want unbiased reporting on condos start your own blog.

Thanks Matt for posting, love the disclaimer. I'm the project's developer and I'm biased too, but I wouldn't know how to begin setting up a blog.
If anyone knows a quality retailer looking for space, someone with a good concept and who has decent financial backing, please have them email me directly. We want to get this space back up and running as soon as possible. We have at least one very interested restaurant, but nothing is signed yet and at this point we're all ears. Thanks again!

I was sad to see Pizza Fusion go–their pizza was good. I suspect the competition with equally new pizza place Zaw just a few blocks away didn't help.
But CapHIll has a very good bakery up on 15th, with tasty croissant and daily bread specials–North Hill. Have you never been there?

I second Matt's motion for a bakery. I like to patronize local businesses but I've tried North Hill Bakery a few times and am just not crazy about it. Just my opinion, looking for a real-deal bagel, marble rye, cookies, cupcake joint. Something like Macrina in Belltown or Essential Bakery in Madison Valley? A tall order I'm sure…

that sounds spectacular. a Macrina on Capitol Hill would change the world as I see it.

I couldn't agree more. Who among you can introduce us?

Did Pizza Fusion have a liquor license, and if so did they sell it or is it coming with the space (not sure how these transfer in Seattle v. here in SF)

You are getting a cupcake joint in 1111 east pike. They should be open this summer.

Just 3 weeks ago Pizza Fuzion was hiring.

That is true Iret. I live at Trace and I will never eat cupcakes – BUT would eat at a deli a lot. I could take or leave the bakery part. Although a sandwich is always better on good, fresh bread.

I noticed the Tavern Law (Spur) liquor license application pasted to the window of the really large retail space on the corner… Are they going to take the giant space or move into the smaller one “gun club” ?
Side note: Zaw was/is superior to Pizza Fusion

We just went to Barrio for the first time the other night and it was awesome!! We live in Belltown and have decided we will put this on our list of “places to go and eat good food” I really liked the pulled pork tacos ($2 happy hour) and the enchiladas verdes were great.

They are moving into the smaller, formerly Gun Club, area.

It's tough to see any business close doors, but the Hill REALLY NEEDS a deli and bakery! I've been saying this for years.
