Kundig Getaway Featured in NYT

Washington architecture gets another mention in the New York Times with a Kundig designed getaway house being featured in the NYT Style Magazine, Rock Star.

I find it hard not to love the views of the San Juan, 15 acre site, outdoor fireplace, sink carved out of rock… Oh what I’d give for a Kundig designed getaway house!

Thanks for posting that. It is on Lopez Island right by another amazing house by Roland Terry that was on the cover of Architectural Digest — I know because my mom had a house nearby and the Bagley-Wright family bought an old cottage there. I guess she got tired of the musty old smell and decided to create something new. You can see the rocks they blasted here to the left of the existing stone house: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=lopez+island,+wa&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=56.987104,64.335938&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Lopez+Island,+San+Juan,+Washington&ll=48.450126,-122.897497&spn=0.002953,0.003927&t=h&z=18

What a classy looking structure. I am literally “blown away” as I contemplate how much rock they need to dissolve to construct this property! Thanks for sharing the google maps link, Eric.

I’m searching for an article that appeared in the New York Times at least 6 years ago about a Seattle architect who built this beautiful house in Seattle with a very zen- like interior, very minimal. I’ve been searching the NY Times website but can’t find it. Can you help?

It looks breathtaking from the outside. It gives of that sleek, minimalistic, modern feel! I wonder how it looks like from the inside though. I’m curious about the landscaping as well – I mean, is it just rocks and trees?
