Reader Asks: How to Find Upcoming Townhouse Projects?

With the market so hot it isn’t surprising that readers now want to find out about projects before they hit the MLS. But how do you do that?

My trick is to walk/run/bike/drive the neighborhood and see what lots are being worked on and then try and dig up details from there.

Our reader who is looking for a modern home or modern town home in Fremont/Wallingford/GreenLake/Revenna with a great Walk Score, 3 bed, 2.25+ bath for <$650k suggests:

  • Go to Redfin and look for listings which sold in the last year which are <1 year old and find the builder name. Then find the builders website and see if they have an upcoming section.
  • Go to Seattle.gov’s DPD site and click DPD Activity Locator and search for new construction. Then go through each one and try to find the builder information and go to their website.

But our reader points out, “the builders websites are generally out of date. They show things as upcoming projects which are already pending or sold. Otherwise they show something without any information.”

Anyone have further tips for finding something? Or know of projects lurking out there?
