AIA Event: Ingredients for Designing a Family-Friendly Downtown

By April 3, 2013

Events

At $150 this isn’t a cheap event! But we thought we’d give you a heads up none-the-less.

When: Thursday, April 11th, 8am-5pm
Where: Seattle City Hall
RSVP: Register

Description:

Seattle’s got a lot going for it, but we still have a hard time supporting families who want to live downtown.

How do we change that, and why should we care?

Join us for a thought-provoking, day-long exploration of the design ingredients every downtown needs for its community to thrive.

Speakers:

Mike Pyatok, FAIA, recipient of the 2013 AIA Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture, will share insights from his career focused on public housing design, which is informed by the participatory design process he uses to involve residents, community members, and stakeholders.

Dr. Pooja Tandon of Seattle Children’s Research Institute will tell us how outdoor recreation affects a community’s health, and Helle Burlingame will share the secrets of great active space design.

Scott Matthews, Senior Director at Vulcan, will join Seattle’s Center City Coordinator Gary Johnson and City Planning Director Marshall Foster in a discussion about successes and challenges in making family-friendly design and development an essential part of urban neighborhoods.

I own and manage Urban Living, a boutique Seattle and Bellevue real estate brokerage. I love lofts, floating homes, new construction, and mid-century moderns, but I will help you buy or sell just about anything!
