60s Chinoiserie on Lake Washington

By July 2, 2014

Houses

If you’re a fan of themed mid-century, this 1960’s contemporary with Chinoiserie detailing is for you.  I think it’s incredible.  Situated on 107 feet of lakefront at 6669 NE Windermere, the dramatic circular Moon Gate entry leads to a welcoming brick courtyard, all hinting at the many unique details inside.  Mosaic detailing on the floating staircase railings, carved wood screens between the family and dining rooms, authentic Japanese bridge over a charming backyard lagoon.  I can see that the neighbors are close, but it feels like a zen retreat.

At 5,710 square feet, this 6 bedroom, 4.5 bath listed for $3,800,000 million has plenty of room to move around.  All of the main living areas, including the office with attached sun room, as well as the master have gorgeous southern views over Lake Washington and Mount Rainier.  The kitchen is a bit dated and has more of a Danish feel, but could easily be brought into the 21st century with modern details that coordinate well with the period styling.  The same could be said for the master bath; although both are perfectly livable.  There is a covered dock on the lake with a boat lift, so you just have to motor on over and move in.  Don’t forget your caftans and kimonos.
