Dwell Development’s 1st Net Zero Modern

From the pictures, this house by Dwell Development is impressive, with many environmentally friendly features including solar panels.  Creative use of materials on the outside, even the fence is a winner.  Not the same old panel siding used on many modern houses.   4606 43rd Ave S is a 3 bedroom plus loft, 3.25 bathroom house, with 3,140 finished square feet and listing for $1,050,000.  There are some issues with property.  This is a 5,100 square foot lot that partially wraps around, and shares the driveway, with neighboring house.  Maintaining good relations with the neighbor will be key, buying that house is a long term solution.

Inside, the materials are first class and most windows are ceiling height.  The living room has a dramatic corner of windows, with sliding doors that lead out to a good size patio.  The other end of the living room is a dead zone with no windows and the door to the powder room.  Going round the corner you pass the entryway and stairwell, taking you into the dining area, with the kitchen at the end of the house.  The kitchen looks great, and has access to a small patio between the house and a two car garage, but is a long way from the living room.  On the second floor is a roomy master bedroom and bathroom.  The 2nd and 3rd bedrooms have to share a bathroom and the smaller of the two only has a narrow window.  The upper level should be a great entertaining space, with a family room opening to the large roof top deck and a small deck at the backside of the house.  The laundry is up here too; no comment.  A food prep area with wet bar should have been included.  The tight lot must have been hard to work around, maybe this house should have been saved for a larger piece of property.
