Must See Open Houses: August 30 and August 31

I should call this Open House Sunday, few are showing and fewer are showing on Saturday. There are only 223 Open Houses this weekend. I’ve found four to highlight because of their views, one contemporary house and three different styles of condominiums.
Neighborhood: University District
Open House: Sunday, August 31, 1-4 pm
I cheated and showed the view from the rooftop deck on the front page. The views from this 22nd story unit are also impressive, but the opposite direction. This 1,120 square foot, 2 bedroom, 1.75 bathroom condo at University Plaza lists for $350,000. That should be a dead giveaway that you will spend some money updating the 1974 interior. If you’re up to the challenge; this condo has room to spare, view balcony, great location, parking for you and your guests, swimming pool, and HOA dues that include everything “except phone and internet”.
Neighborhood: View Ridge
Open House: Sunday, August 31, 1-4 pm
Coming in at $1.275,000, this 3,950 square foot contemporary is impressive. For that price you get 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, family room, den, and bonus room. Flooring is heated stained concrete, bamboo or cork. Views are to the east over Sand Point. The garage is below and the driveway takes up most of the backyard, so little yard work is needed. With Sand Point and the Burke-Gilman Trail so close, this area is heaven for those outdoorsy types.
Neighborhood: Queen Anne
Open House: Sunday, August 31, 1-4 pm
Moving south to my neck of the woods, this south slope Queen Anne condo has 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 972 square feet and lists for $398,000. The views are south over Elliott Bay, not bad for the first floor. Bonus for being on the ground level is a patio leading out to the side yard of the building. If you can handle the slope, this is a walker’s neighborhood. Easy access to plenty of bus lines. Coming back from downtown I just catch the first bus that goes through Uptown, or the monorail if traffic is backed up. Sadly, the new larger Trader Joe’s is further up the hill, you’ll have to settle for walking to Metropolitan Market or Safeway. Great area, great people, and since a knockdown house on a 5,000 square foot lot goes for $800,000+, great price.
Neighborhood: Greenwood
Open House: Saturday, August 30, 1-4 pm and Sunday, August 31, 1-4 pm
With windows all around, this 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom condo listing for $295,000, feels more like a house than a condo. There are only 6 units in the community and with Carkeek Park just outside your door you can soon forget you live in a city. When you have to travel back to civilization, shopping and major bus lines are nearby. It was built in 1953, but newly renovated. HOA dues are low at $284/month. I can’t quite figure out where the bathrooms and washer/dryer are hidden, but they are there. Nice.
