Mortgage Rate Predictions For End of Year and 2019

By June 22, 2018

Et cetera

One of the lenders we work with, Lysa Caitlin, put out an update this week on mortgage rate predictions that caught our eye. If you’re thinking of waiting until the fall or next year to buy, it should catch yours too as increasing rates could decrease you’re buying power.

Freddie Mac

30 Year Fixed Conforming Rates will finish 2018 around 4.6% and move up to only 5.1% in 2019

Fannie Mae

30 Year Fixed Conforming Rates will finish 2018 around 4.6% and stay around 4.6% throughout 2019.

Mortgage Banker’s Association

30 Year Fixed Conforming Rates will finish 2018 around 4.9% and move up to only 5.3% in 2019.

Lysa’s prediction?

Historically, Fannie Mae is the most accurate. Let’s hope Fannie Mae comes through. Personally, I see rates moving slightly higher than the forecasts above, unless we have a major unforeseen political event. If we stay anywhere under 6.0%, it is a huge gift to homebuyers.
