New-construction Magnolia modern draws midcentury inspiration

By April 18, 2020

Houses, Magnolia

3401 Magnolia Blvd W is thoughtful new construction, full of contemporary takes on some midcentury hallmarks—alongside some more present-day features.

A quaint exterior with a peaked roof and wood siding opens to a split entry surrounded by a story and a half of windows. It’s easy to see the influence up here: A fireplace with tidy midcentury geometry, complete with a low built-in bench, is the living room’s anchor. The semi-open stair to the top level doubles as a wood-slat room divider. Flat, simple wood-grain cabinetry. This home has a lot of space for new construction, but it fits all its upscale amenities in there without getting too busy, like the butler’s pantry tucked in off the kitchen.

There are plenty of newer trends here, too: A built-in shiplap entryway bench off the den, a chevron-patterned accent wall in the office, a sweet rooftop deck. Views are, of course, timeless, and this house has a peek through the trees at Puget Sound up top.
