Quirky floating home combines midcentury modern with Cape Cod

2235 Fairview Ave E 16 is an eclectic floating home. It was built in 1960 with some of the midcentury standards, like a sloping exposed-grain ceiling. But it is also quite thoroughly a beach house, with a singled exterior, outdoor spaces for both sun and shelter, and porthole windows—both a large, round statement window and a literal porthole.

There’s plenty of room to party here. The wraparound lower deck includes two swim ladders, plus a space to lounge. It has two bedrooms on paper, but a walk-in closet off the master is oversized (and windowed) enough to be an unofficial third one. Both the kitchen and the living room have more wiggle room than many a floating home.

It also stands out for only having one owner for the past half-century—you don’t see a lot of that on the dock.
