Before and after full bathroom remodel

By June 26, 2020

Et cetera

Many of our clients consider bathroom remodels, so when a client recently completed one we thought it’d be great to share their experience of what a remodel of a typical full bathroom in Seattle looks like. The home was built in 1902 and you can see that the bathroom was very much in need of a remodel that included replacing the window and replacing damage from a leaky toilet (fix loose toilets promptly!)

  • Cost: $25,000
    • $2,200+tax of that was fixing water damage caused by the old toilet
    • $2,400+tax of that was for the flooring “mistake”
  • Lead time: 3 weeks
  • Completion time: 3 weeks

Wins:

  • Heated tile floors
  • Recessed medicine cabinet: “My bathroom is on the smaller side.  It was surprising how much larger the cabinet recessing made it feel.”
  • Powered medicine cabinet: “It’s nice to get all the electric toothbrushes (and their chargers and wires) inside the cabinet, reducing clutter. “

Mistakes:

  • Choosing the floor tile online: “I didn’t get to see the tile in person until it was already installed… and it didn’t look good.  So, the floor had to be redone.  Ouch.”
  • Not inspecting vanity prior to installation: “I was away, so I didn’t get to fully see the vanity until it was already installed.  That’s when I noticed when the soft-close drawers that the vendor detailed about the vanity where not actually soft-close – it was a mistake in the product description.”

Have a remodel to share? We’d love to feature it!
