A remodeled Ralph Anderson perches on a Mercer Island hillside

7550 SE 71st St has classic siting for a Ralph Anderson home: Perched atop a Mercer Island hillside, but tucked in among the trees. The driveway even crosses a low, wide wooden bridge before even getting to the house. But once you get closer, the big Lake Washington view opens up, with a deck like a prow of a ship looking over it.

The place has been remodeled since its 1970 build—including a kitchen and bathroom remodel in the early 2000s—and redecorated somewhat, so some pockets have more of the Anderson look in them than others. On the main story, a fireplace on one side of the home has a newer-style glass surround, and one on the other is built in a more classic white brick. Vaulted exposed-grain ceilings still add some majesty, just with extra fixtures here and there.

The surrounding landscape plays with the setting—from a view patio adjacent to the house to a series of manicured lawns and gardens descending down the hillside.
