Capitol Hill loft offers the classic warehouse look

1505 11th Ave Unit 302 comes by its classic industrial look honestly. The homes in Monique Lofts were carved from a 1913 warehouse—originally Smyth Van and Storage—in 1999. Those roots are still visible: At the top of 12.5-foot ceilings, thick timber and hardware have stuck around. An exposed-brick pillar separates two giant, south-facing windows.

Newer finishes don’t detract from the style. The sleeping loft and a built-in shelving unit are both lined with metal piping. Under the loft, an exposed wood-slat ceiling continues the look into the kitchen and bathroom. Keeping with the original sensibility, the functional bits of the home are also in full view, including exposed ductwork and a triangle of support beam.

Lots of new buildings go for this aesthetic, but there are only so many actual former warehouses out there.
